Teresa Mata
Occupational Therapist, OTR/L

Teresa Mata, MOT, OTR/L, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, where she attended college.  She earned a Bachelors of Arts in Allied Health and Spanish from Bridgewater College and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from James Madison University. Teresa is licensed and registered as an occupational therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Teresa has gained valuable experience treating a diverse patient population including neurologic and orthopedic based diagnoses, as well as post-operative care. She is dedicated to and specializes in the rehabilitation of the hand, and upper extremities. Her approach to care is not about chasing the pain, but finding the dysfunction and getting to the root cause of the problem. She has received advanced training from The Jones Institute in the technique of Strain Counter-strain and Fascial Counter-strain, which is a gentle manual technique used to restore mobility and reduce pain. She has worked closely with, and enjoys collaborating with a team of experienced therapists and athletic trainers, all striving to have the best results for our patients.

Teresa’s professional background is also enriched by her experience as a certified medical interpreter for Spanish speaking individuals in the community. She has worked with a variety of allied health care professionals through The Blue Ridge Area Health Education Center and served as a conduit, clarifier, cultural broker, and advocate for clients and healthcare providers.

Teresa is a dynamic, tenacious, collaborative and adventurous individual who is passionate about empowering people to achieve their goals. She enjoys spending time with her fun-loving family and friends and creating long-lasting memories. As an explorer of all things, she enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors.
